A New Sonic for Orange County

Tonight, we dared ourselves to check out the new Sonic Drive-In in Mission Viejo. This is the second Sonic in Orange County, and the closest one to our house. The new Sonic opened last week and I've read and heard how crowded it was. They actually had a staging area for cars in a local Target parking lot.

I first fell in love with Sonic while visiting a friend in Dallas, Texas. I was a Sonic virgin then. In Texas, they are all around like McDonald's here in California. I loved it so much that I made her take me there every day I was visiting.

When I visit a new town or state, I always look to see if they have a Sonic. When I go to Las Vegas, Sonic is one of the first places that I visit. Yes, there's a Sonic in Anaheim too, off of the 91 Freeway, but it's totally inconvenient and the 91 Freeway is not my friend.

Angry Husband knows that I've been wanting to go to this new Sonic, really really bad. He granted my wish tonight. We picked up Angry Toddler from preschool and headed on our way. We went on the southbound 405 Freeway, which was a mess. We wented up exited on Lake Forest. We took Lake Forest to Jeronimo. The Sonic is on Jeronimo and Los Alisos.

We immediately noticed that it was not that crowded, which was nice. This Sonic actually has a drive-thru as opposed to just car hop areas. The drive-thru was very stream lined. The cars were not piling up at all. We choose to part a car in the shopping center parking lot and walked in. We were met with an employee with a hand held electronic order board. He took our order and we went and found a table. Within, ten minutes our order was brought to us by a car hop on roller skates. All of the car hops were wearing roller skates. There were also employees skating around the business, perhaps for practice. I even saw one female car hop lose it and fell pretty hard, luckily she was not carrying an food.

We all enjoyed our food. Angry Husband got his chili cheese tater tots and I got my beloved 44 oz. Cherry Limeade. Angry Toddler got a kid's meal with popcorn chicken and tater tots. We enjoyed our food and went on our way. Angry Toddler wanted to sample my drink on the way home, and he instantly fell in love. He did not want to give my 44 oz. goodness back.

I can't wait for the next time I get to go back there.

And if you are wondering...
The Newest Sonic in Orange County is located at: 25502 Jeronimo Road, Mission Viejo.

  1. Yes, but DOES IT HAVE BACON?!?! Haha! Even if not, I'm sure my wee one would like the popcorn chicken. It's popcorn and it's chicken! Or, not. But he'll like the name, the little carnivore!

BTW, hope that 42-ouncer isn't filled with Monster! ;-)

  2. We have a Sonic right across the street from us but I haven't really been there. I'm a vegetarian so I don't think they have anything I could eat. That drink does look awesome though!!

  3. Went in? Table? That is not how the Sonics are here. I've seen some that have tables outside, but never one with an indoor section. Weird.

Yes, they have bacon. I think they serve breakfast 24/7 like Whataburger, but I guess y'all don't have those either.

  4. Living in Dallas, Sonics are a dime a dozen. I don't eat there but do love a Cherry Limeaide. Here lately that have a "happy hour" from 2-4 (or so) and drinks are half price! Isn't their ice the best?

  5. Happy Hour is awesome! I live for their Diet Cherry Limeades. And, the most WT thing on the dollar menu.....the frito chili wrap. Brings me back to my roots.

  6. Did you not get chili cheese tots too???? We get sonic drinks every Thursday on my way to vacuum my car (can you say, OCD?) It is very difficult not to order a corny dog or some jalepeno poppers. YUMMY!

I didn't realize Sonics weren't everywhere like they are here.

  10. I loooove Sonic. In NC, I went there all the time which explains why I gained so much weight in the last ten months or so. I seriously ate there constantly. My favorites are their cherry Coke, bacon cheeseburgers, onion rings and on days when I was really, really bad, banana cream pie shakes. That sucker is disgustingly good. When I was interviewing for jobs in 29 Palms I decided I could totally live there when I found out there was a Starbucks already and a Sonic being built. Hahaha!!

  15. If you ever come visit the Sashas, we've got at least 5 Sonics in our little town!!! I grew up on Sonic and even Sonic ice since they sell it by the bag!

  16. I still have never been to a Sonic- none near us. When Chick-Fil-A opened here a few months ago, it was crazy. They still have people directing traffic 3 months later for the drive thru!

  17. Love the angry idea but your pic makes you look.... uh chubby? Soooo, food critic may not be something I'm gonna take your word on, especially since my visit to MV Sonic (and my order of sub-prime, clearly frozen, gross/greasy onion rings, etc...fast pretend food). Don't get me wrong, you can find me in the in-&-out line once every 2 weeks, not a food snob. Just like food that tastes even remotely like the original intent.
